Material Safety

This page explains the material language used across the catalogue and how to care for each surface. It is a general description of the materials we stock, written so you can make a judgement about what suits you, and it deliberately avoids claims we cannot support.

What body-safe means here

We use body-safe to describe a surface that is non-porous, smoothly finished and chemically stable at body temperature. Non-porous means liquids and residue sit on the surface rather than soaking into it, which is what makes thorough cleaning possible. Smooth means no mold seams, no crevices and no flaking coatings.

Silicone wording

Where a listing says medical-grade silicone, that phrase is used as a general description of a platinum-cured silicone with a well-finished, non-porous surface. It is not a statement that the item holds any specific certification, and we do not claim a named certification for any product on this site. If a certificate matters to you, ask before ordering and we will tell you what documentation exists for that item, including when the answer is none.

Phthalates

The silicone items we list are described as phthalate-free. That is a general statement about the material specification we buy to, not a laboratory result for an individual unit. Soft plastic and elastomer products outside our catalogue often do contain plasticisers, which is one reason we do not stock them.

Cleaner compatibility

Use a cleanser formulated for silicone and hard surfaces, or a mild fragrance-free soap with warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Avoid alcohol, acetone, bleach, abrasive pads, boiling water and dishwashers; these degrade silicone finishes, dull glass polish and lift coated metal trim. A water-based cleanser is also the right choice for routine care because it rinses away without leaving a film that could hold a scent.

Lubricant compatibility

Silicone-based lubricant can soften silicone over repeated contact, so a water-based lubricant is the safer pairing for silicone pieces. Glass and metal are unaffected by either type. Whatever you use, wash it off afterwards rather than leaving it on the surface.

Care by material

Material Wash Dry Watch for
Platinum-cured silicone Warm water, silicone-safe wash Lint-free cloth, air dry Tacky patches, seam lines, dull spots
Borosilicate glass Warm water, mild soap or wash Soft cloth Chips, hairline cracks, rough rims
Stainless steel Warm water, mild soap Wipe dry immediately Water spots, plating wear at edges
Sealed hard plastic Damp cloth, mild soap Air dry Cracks around seams and ports

Storage

Store each item separately in a breathable pouch, away from direct sun and dust, and away from porous materials. Silicone can pick up pigment and scent from prolonged contact with other soft plastics, so keep the families apart in the drawer.

California Proposition 65

Whether a Proposition 65 warning is required for a given item, and the exact wording, depends on supplier documentation and the operator identity behind this store. That determination must be confirmed by the operator before this store accepts live orders. See the Proposition 65 page for the full explanation.
